Visual artist, Marcie Coltman, uses the canvas as a platform to her own healing and exploration of a woman with a voice. Her art is aligned with social issues and personal convictions. Marcie shares her own experience with these topics in a transparent and forthcoming way. Her art style is contemporary abstract expressionism and uses various mediums on canvas. Acrylics, gouache, charcoal and ink are most readily used. She incorporates various means of adding texture: scraping, pallet knife, and multiple layers of paint. Many of Marcie’s paintings appear soft and feminine from afar, but at closer look, a twist of chaos and mystery are eluded using thought-provoking gestural brushstrokes. She pushes the envelope, constantly challenging herself to try new methods to instill an emotional response from the viewer.
